I agree with Peter on this one - he&#039;s spelled it out pretty well. H1&#039;s have far more weight than any alt-tag when it comes to SEO.

Just a few things though...

If you are worried about the alt-tag being the same on each page - unless its a dynamically created page - you are probably inserting the img tag in each page - so why not change it slightly on each?

And if you are worried about irrelevant alt-tag for an image which does not display what the alt is suggesting - no worries. As long as the content is matched with it all is good.

Otherwise use a background image for your banner  and forget about the alt-tag. Focus on the first 100 characters or so being good h1&#039;s or h2&#039;s that are relevent to the rest of the content on that page.
